Candle Light
Assalaamu'alaikum Sisters..
I love candle light in the dark (it looks peaceful)..and i have been trying to take the pictures of it. These are some pictures i took by using my little digital camera Canon A560..still dont know much about the features of it (i think i just feel lazy to read its manual...). I take the pictures of the objects by "trying out" without photography techniques and then i use photoshop to add the dates on the pic.
Wassalaamu'alaikum,

Assalaamu'alaikum Sisters,
Masyaallah many of us love candle lights, i guess women will love candle lights
Sister Zaza, i dont have talent at photoshop or any software graphic actually although i took photoshop course when i was in university but i think i still can not do much in photoshop
Few months ago i saw a picture of candle on internet without light (i mean...it just blow and there was smoke i could see there..and was beautiful). So i thought to try to take picture of it too..but couldnt.
But i still tried to actually yesterday...but i had to use flash light..when i tried in the dark i couldnt see the smoke
(Yes..its just i was becoming curious ...)

I don't know much about photography Insha Allah sister Mabsoota may be able to answer your question.
Do I have your permission to add smoke to your picture in photoshop so we can see the effect?

On second thoughts why don’t you try to make the smoke yourself it is quite easy.
1. Open your image in Photoshop
2. New Layer, brush size 7 or 9 soft edge opacity 50% and make some wavy lines.
3. Use the Smudge tool and play around till you like the smoke effect
Give it a try

Re: Candle Light
Beautiful shots sister Ray.
I was curious about smoking candle pics and did a google image search. Some of the pics are amazing of the way the smoke '''ribbons'' and ''swirls'' and are not just blurry smudges subhanAllah
I wonder if the camera is set on the sports setting would it capture the smoke better. I wouldn't know about the kind of lighting needed though.
Maybe we could practice on incense sticks as the smoke is more noticable and longer lasting than blowing out a candle

Assalaamu'alaikum,
Sister Aisha! Jazakillah for the idea ! you are right, i should try with the incense sticks! Never thought about that before. I think i should try your idea...and about the light setting of the camera...i am sure i have to read the manual book of it..i never read that manual, just press press and press the button and take the pics, without any settings..

Re: Candle Light
Sorry sister Ray I thought I had replied to your query about the camera setting as I did a little bit of research online - it seems that the kids and animals setting is probably similar to the sports setting because of the movements of the subject you want to photograph.
I didn't try taking a pic of a smoking incense-stick yet - did you?
Sister khadijah I agree that candle-light is relaxing and romantic. It is also very simple and 'un-modern' for want of a better word. We had a power-cut for a few hours one evening last week and got the candles out. No television , computers, no sounds from air-conditioners, refrigerators etc. and we all had the chance to make conversation and shadow-puppets on the walls alhamdulilah
