Libya - It's nature & culture
As-Salaamu alaikum
I would like to share some of my pics of the nature of Libya in and around Benghazi and the Jabal Akhdhar (green mountains), situated on the eastern coast of Libya on the Mediterranean sea.
As you can see from these photos mashaAllah, Libya does not consist only of sand and rocks even though most of the country is in part of the Sahara desert subhanAllah.
Wild spring flowers in the Green mountains:
Fir trees on the Green mountains:
An Apricot tree in blossom on our farm in Benghazi:
Wild flowers on the farm:
Grass blowing in the breeze making a rippling effect subhanAllah:
These are wild edible Artichokes which only grow in the Benghazi area for a few weeks only in the Springtime. We collect these and eat them raw on our picnics maybe you wonder how? they are very similar to globe Artichokes but much smaller and a lot more prickly as you can see:
I will be adding to this collection inshaAllah

A farm in Libya in which we can see a Date Palm heavily laden with still unripened fruit mashaAllah (though the dates are edible, sweet and crunchy at this stage), Rosemary in the foreground and Bird of Paradise flowers to the left of the pic:

I'm glad that you like them dear sister queen
These are a few pics of the Libyan speciality dish that we prepared for Eid ul Adh-ha - we were six families mashaAllah including my mum-in-law so there were six sheep for thabah (sacrifice) alhamdulilah..
Osban and Musareen
If you would like the recipe and see more pics you can find it in my cooking blog inshaAllah:

Re: Libya - It's nature & culture
Last thursday we had a very heavy dust-storm which last most of the day.
Here are some pics I took of the storm accompanied by some pics I took the next day to compare the visibility of the views from some of our windows (all pics were taken early afternoon):
Only the wall and Orange and lemon trees are visible during the dust-storm:
This is one of the views from the roof:
Same view from the roof during the dust-storm:
Even though we had all of the shutters on the windows closed and the curtains drawn, even the inside of the house was dusty as the dust is so fine it can blow through the tiniest crack around windows and doors. The dust is in your eyes and up your nose and you taste it all day until the storm has died down subhanAllah.

Re: Libya - It's nature & culture
As Salamu Alaikum
All the pictures are lovely.
I normally stay away from the area during the sacrifice and cleaning process. I don't have the stomach for all that blood. I help cutting the meat and making the parcels for distribution; after all the hard work is done.
Never been in a dust storm that lasted so long. Imagine tasting the dust all day. SubhanAllah.

Re: Libya - It's nature & culture
This is a sunset at a beach several kilometres outside the city of Benghazi. You can see how the sea grass has formed banks. There is no high and low tide - but the waves can get pretty rough during the winter and throw up even more of the sea grass.
Sometimes sea turtles come out to lay their eggs but they are only seen rarely.

This is some of the countryside around Benghazi and a place where horses are run (they do not race the horses but the aim is to ride the horses at speed and very close to each other as to form a kind of charging wall).
