The Shipping Man
I'm not sure if you guys know this or not, but my family adn I moved here ( Saudi Arabia this year). I wrote this a little before we moved and I suddenly decided to share (I've got this hope that somehow this will inspire more people to write, hehe :P)
-----------
The Shipping Man
HE ENTERS the house wearing his company's uniform and a professional smile which almost seems to be part of his outfit. He surveys the house, finishes his round, strokes his chin, and his eyes betray a glint of unhappiness. At last he says, "If you ask me," though we did not ask him this, "this is all junk. You really can't take this stuff with you," he says, eyeing with distaste the cracked wooden table whose color had been repainted with the thousand dinners and dinner sauces it had endured.
"Are you sure," we ask, and he surveys once more the boxes around him, and yet, as his eyes roam over each one, we feel the vomit inducing sensation of having been somehow violated. With the same callousness as a customs' airport official opening a bag of underwear and inquiring "What is this,"?
he opens every box of ours, takes the very quilt of our lives, denounces the memories of a lifetime as
Junk, not worth taking with us-
better left
behind.

Re: The Shipping Man
Sis Amina this is very poignant (the good definition of the word ) and for sharing this. Just one thing: so when are you publishing your first book insha'Allah?
And dear sisters, I think that sister Amina's writing needs company here in this section. I hope you will all begin to share some of your writing here in the Garden insha'Allah. We are looking forward to it.

Hehehe, Zaza!! I'm glad it made your day! It can be a real *blush worthy moment* when it happens! For both us and the airport security, I imagine ;)
Jazaki Allah koli khair to both of you! Umm Nu'man, I was so flattered with your comment! :D :D
