In need of a Program for making Flash

Someone I know (well, actually, him indoors
) is in need of a program that makes Flashes (you know, like the Prayer tutorial on http://english.Islamway.com). At the moment he is using snagit program but does not like it.Could anyone recommend a better one (a free one preferably, for first attempts, lol) and a tutorial that goes with it ? .

I have Macromedia Flash Mx sitting in my Hard-drive ..... don't know how to use it yet, so I will be watching this thread for some new software too.
